There have been allegations suggesting that Zak Bagans, the host of Ghost Adventures, played a role in the cancellation of certain paranormal television shows. These claims primarily stem from former collaborators and fellow investigators.

Allegations from Former Colleagues
-
Nick Groff, co-creator of Ghost Adventures and host of Paranormal Lockdown, implied that Bagans influenced the cancellation of his show. Groff suggested that internal conflicts and personal disagreements contributed to the show’s end.
-
Bill Hartley, a cast member of Ghosts of Shepherdstown, alleged that a prominent figure in the paranormal community, widely interpreted as Bagans, opposed the show’s renewal. Hartley claimed that this individual did not want to be associated with the same network as Groff, leading to the show’s cancellation after two seasons
-
Dakota Laden, creator and host of Destination Fear, addressed rumors about Bagans’ involvement in his show’s cancellation. While Laden acknowledged that Bagans did not support his show, he stated that Bagans had no hand in its ending.
Zak Bagans’ Response
Zak Bagans has publicly denied any involvement in the cancellation of other paranormal shows. In a statement on social media, he asserted, “I have and had absolutely nothing to do with any shows being cancelled” .
The Real Reason Paranormal Shows Are Getting Canceled — And It’s Not Zak Bagans
For a long time, fans have blamed Ghost Adventures star Zak Bagans for the cancellation of several paranormal TV shows. But on March 29, paranormal investigator Amy Bruni took to Instagram to shut down those rumors once and for all — and she made it very clear: Zak Bagans did not have shows canceled.
In her own words, Amy said, “I get so exhausted by this rumor that Zak B had paranormal shows canceled because a – that’s not how TV works and it’s just plain wrong.” She explained that television doesn’t work in a way where a single person can decide the fate of multiple shows. It’s much more complicated — and unfortunately, much more troubling.
According to Amy, the real reason your favorite paranormal (and even non-paranormal) reality shows are disappearing is because of corporate decisions at the network and streaming levels. She shared, “It all comes down to people high up in offices who have zero love for what we do, deciding that – regardless of ratings or fandom – these smaller reality shows were not an expense they were willing to shoulder anymore.”
This isn’t just affecting paranormal TV. Amy pointed out that “crew members, editors, etc across the entire reality TV industry are facing unprecedented unemployment levels. Entire production companies have closed.” It’s a bigger, industry-wide issue — not the result of drama between personalities.
Amy also made it clear that she wasn’t defending Zak Bagans personally, but defending the hard work of countless people behind the scenes. She said, “Please, stop suggesting one person took everything we loved and worked years for and shut it down. Because he didn’t.”
Instead of blaming one individual, Amy encouraged fans to support their favorite creators in their independent projects. That’s where the future lies now — not in crying to the networks.
In short: Zak Bagans did not cancel paranormal shows. Corporate decisions, financial cuts, and the shrinking support for reality TV are the real reasons. Amy Bruni and many others in the paranormal community want fans to understand that — and stop spreading rumors that disrespect the work and struggles of so many people.
